  33. YA books: Finnikin of the Rock, Jellicoe Road (anything by Melina Marchetta), Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Wanderlove and The Summoning.

    Middlegrade: The Hero's Guide to Saving the Kingdom, A Monster Calls and The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

  35. I have read so many really great ya and middle grade books so this is a difficult question. The Phoenix Girls for middle grade and The Morganville Vampires for young adult.

  64. There have been some great recommendations so far. Some additional favorites are Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, Daughter of Smoke and bone by Laini Taylor, and one of my handband's favorite series is the Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan.
