The City of Bridgehaven is under attack.

But Richter Whitlock is determined to make sure that doesn’t happen. He joins the Knights of the Silver Fog—individuals dedicated to protecting Bridgehaven, and the dragons, at all costs—in the hopes of caring for a fragile dragon egg, so that one day he may bond and fight back.

Review
I have featured another of Shami Stovall's books here, but this is the first time I've had the time to actually read one....and OMG I could kick myself for missing out on such an incredible author all this time! This book is amazing! I absolutely devoured it in one sitting...it was THAT good. I was caught up from the very first... I have to admit to being a long time dragon-lover (can we say Dragondriders of Pern), so I already was entranced by the whole aspect of the knights being able to bond with their dragons from the time they hatch, but I was blown away with the twist that comes re: a surprise traitor in the story.
I'm telling you...that was a twist I did NOT see coming!! No spoilers, though... you have to read the book yourself to find out what happens. I will tell you, though, it brought me to literal tears.
Richter is one of my favorite characters of all time... I absolutely am in love with him! He is everything I want in a hero... so, good job, Ms Stovall... you have won a fan with this book!
As much as I love Richter, the other characters are equally compelling. I can not wait to see what happens next. 5 well-deserved stars!!

“Come.” I motioned to the western road. “We’ll take the seventeenth bridge.”
Lex didn’t even respond. He just ran.
All around us, the world was waking up. Merchants were pulling carts to the market, fishermen were prepping their boats, and craftsmen were already in their shops, tinkering away. The sky over Bridgehaven was the color of steel, the sun still creeping its way over the horizon, but the pulse of Bridgehaven already beat steadily.
The streets shimmered with a thin veil of silver fog swirling around the cobblestones. The air tingled as we breathed it in. It felt alive with power.
And it really was.
Whenever humans inhaled silver fog, magic became a permanent part of them, and they gained an innate magical ability—a gyft. The longer they breathed it, the stronger the magic gyft in their body became. I had been breathing the fog my whole life, as had most people in Bridgehaven. Gyfts were one of the sacred blessings from dragons.
Because… the silver fog came from a dragon’s breath.
About the Author: Shami Stovall was born in Utah, lived in California, and now resides in the wonderful state of Kansas. After graduating high school, she went on to earn his BA in History from Stanislaus State, and then her Juris Doctorate from the Laurence Drivon School of Law.
Stovall’s favorite novel as a child was Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. It opened her imagination to possibilities she had never considered, and to this day she can still remember the impact it had on her.
As an adult (albeit still a kid at heart), her favorite novel is Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. Heinlein’s take on a perfect world again opened her mind to possibilities she had never considered, and Jubal Harshaw is the fictional character she most aspires to be.
Stovall loves telling stories, playing video games, John 3, John 4, and writing about herself in the third person.
